Klook, the tourism reservation platform, has announced the “Top 10 Things to Do in Japan by Foreign Tourists in Summer 2023,” based on a survey of experiences that caught the attention of inbound tourists.

The selection was made from search results during the period from June 1st to June 20th, covering activities and experiences across Japan.

Ranging from 6th to 10th place, activities that embody the essence of summer were listed: “Hokkaido Lavender / Biei Tour,” “Fuji Five Lakes and Kawagoe Tour,” “Fireworks Display,” “Takachiho Gorge Tour,” and “Diving and Snorkeling.”

The rankings reveal a demand for activities that epitomize the Japanese summer, including lavender tours in Hokkaido and Kawaguchiko, fireworks festivals that were canceled due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and other unique “Japanese experiences.”Additionally, the popularity of various prefectures is worth noting. In the popularity rankings for June, Tokyo and Kyoto, perennial favorites, maintained their positions, while Yamanashi, home to Mt. Fuji, also secured a high rank.

On the other hand, when considering the top 5 prefectures with the highest growth rates since May, the rise in popularity of Hokkaido, Kanagawa, and Gifu can be attributed to the appeal of lavender fields, Hakone, and Shirakawa-go.

The data indicates a shift in focus towards Japan’s breathtaking natural experiences during this year’s summer, following the relaxation of entry restrictions amid the COVID-19 measures. As the first summer after the easing of border controls approaches, many people from various countries are expected to plan trips to Japan.
