“SLOW SHOPPING” BEGINS IN ITO YOKADO YOKOHAMA FOR SENIORS

“Slow Shopping'” has begun in Yokohama, where the local community supports the shopping of elderly people whose physical and mental functions have deteriorated and who feel anxious about going out alone.

Local volunteers assist with product selection and payment, and supermarkets have dedicated cash registers so that customers can pay without worrying about other people watching. By reducing the barriers to shopping, we are creating opportunities for seniors to go out on their own and interact with the local community.

During slow shopping, volunteers walk around the store with seniors and help them select items, pay for items, and pack bags. A dedicated cash register will also be installed, allowing participants to pay at their own pace.
