SAN MIGUEL ALLIANCE WINS BID FOR MANILA AIRPORT RENOVATION PROJECT
The Philippine Department of Transportation announced on the 16th that a consortium consisting of local conglomerate San Miguel Corporation (SMC) and others won the bid to renovate Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), the main air gateway for Metro Manila. The NAIA rehabilitation will cost around 3 billion dollars.
Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) has been grappling with persistent congestion and flight delays, and past efforts to revitalize the aging facility have encountered setbacks.
NAIA, among the oldest airports in the region and named after a famous politician assassinated in 1983, has endured decades of neglect, earning a global reputation as one of the worst airports. A significant power outage in early 2023 disrupted numerous flights, intensifying calls for the privatization of operations.
