AUGUST: 2.15 MILLION FOREIGN TOURISTS IN JAPAN

Last month, Japan welcomed over 2.15 million foreign tourists, marking the third consecutive month with more than 2 million visitors. This represents a significant recovery, reaching about 85% of pre-COVID-19 levels in 2019.

South Korea had the highest number of visitors with 569,100, followed by Taiwan with 396,300, China with 364,100, and Hong Kong with 206,300 visitors. The Japan National Tourism Organization attributes this recovery to an increase in travelers not only from Asia but also from countries like the United States and Canada.

While the number of Chinese tourists remains at 36% compared to August 2019 levels, there is anticipation that the upcoming Chinese National Day holiday may lead to further recovery in inbound tourism.
