Last August 16, the presidential office announced that August 25 will be declared holiday in metropolitan areas and Bulacan area to celebrate the opening of the FIBA World Cup.

The opening ceremony will be held in Santa Maria Bulacan and is expected to cause heavy traffic and congestion in the area.

The Philippines has been a member of FIBA since 1936 made their debut on the same year in the Olympics and finished 5th which is the best position of an Asian team in history.
