A fire broke out on the passenger ship “MV Esperanza Star” on the morning of the 18th, southwest of Bohol Island.

The Philippine Coast Guard declared the fire extinguished at around 10 a.m. Fortunately, there were no casualties among the 72 passengers and 60 crew members. According to the Bohol Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the distress signal was transmitted by the passenger ship at 3:55 a.m.

Approximately five nearby fishing vessels were the first to respond, followed by PCG vessels that rescued the passengers.
