PUBLIC POOLS IN TOKYO

Summer is fast approaching in Japan. Students will soon have their summer breaks as well as some companies. Summer is usually the time for matsuris and hanabi. However, these activities are sometimes not interesting enough for the kids. If you are in Tokyo, this is the best time to enjoy the public pools as they reopen again to the public.

First on our list is the Minatoku Sports Center. MInato-ku residents are very lucky when it comes to their sports center. This building has 5 floors offering different activities, from gym facilities, a kendo and judo area as well as an indoor pool, on the 4th floor. Their indoor pool is divided into two categories, the large pool and the small pool. Bonus: they also have two jacuzzis. Entrance fee is only 500 yen for Minato-ku residents, while for outsiders, you only have to pay 800 yen. Please check their site for availability, as sometimes it is reserved for school activities. For people with tattoos, your tattoo must be covered. Also, bring your own towels. They don’t offer rental towels, but you can buy on their store.

Next is Tokyo Metropolitan Indoor Gymnasium. Located in Sendagaya, Shibuya-ku, this gym has competition-sized pools with both 8 lanes and 6 lanes available. You can actually rent their pool as a group from 2,000 yen for 2 hours. For individual use, the charge is 600 yen and 260 yen for Junior High School students for two and a half hours of use. They also offer swimming classes for those who are interested.

Lastly, there is Sumida Gymnasium in Kinshi Sumida-ku Tokyo. This gym has 5 floors of different activities being offered to its residents. They have areas for archery, golf and futsal. The swimming pool is located in their 1st floor. You can definitely enjoy a variety of sports in this gym. The cost of using the pool is 550 yen for 2 hours. This is also open to non-Sumida-ku residents.

If you want to take your swimming to a different level, Attic tours offers a trip to Spa Resort Hawaiian. Known for their water slider, definitely a must visit this summer.
