SAVING MONEY WHILE LIVING IN JAPAN

It is easy to get lost on spending  budget while living in Japan. The appetizing food from convenience stores and restaurants, seasonal activities left and right and the convenience of traveling within the country that makes you want to go and visit another prefecture and not mentioning the bills and daily life essentials that you need to buy.

Amidst all these temptations and distractions, there are still ways to save money while living in Japan. First on our list is probably known to everyone which is the second hand shop. Whether you are looking for cheap clothes, house appliances or shoes, you must visit the second hand shop first before going to any shop. These second hand shops often have sales so make sure to visit during those dates. Some known shops are BOOK OFF and 2nd Street.

If you are a Facebook user, you can also check TOKYO SAYONARA SALE and some garage sale online. Most of the members here are foreigners who are about to leave Japan so they are putting their stuff on sale on a very cheap price and sometimes free!

Second is finding things in Mercari. Personally, I saved a lot of money by buying books in Mercari instead of buying them brandnew. What is great about this app is that it is okay to haggle the price. Looking for a some item that you cannot find in Japan? Try Mercari.

Lastly, if you want to relax and take a breather from the busy life of Japan, it’s always a good idea to unwind. If you don’t want to spend a lot of money traveling, I suggest joining group tours. For as low as 10,000 yen, you can see Mt. Fuji or you can try fruit picking too! If traveling long hours is not for you, why not stay in a hotel and have a staycation? As of now, Tokyo residents are qualified to receive discounts for their hotel booking.
